Home Fabrics

Here are my latest favorites. The middle one on the wall (black with dots) is the foundation fabric. I think I want to do my drapes with this. I could use one of the other two for coordinating valences (not above the same window). The floral is darling, but I'm not a big fan of the strawberries. There are a few more options in the mix, but these are the coordinating ones I have samples for. Any thoughts are welcome, I very well understand this is not everyone's style, but I like a little bright in my life! For those of you seeing this for the first time, this green wall is my kitchen. A family room with a very neutral paint color is attached and these window treatments are going to serve both areas.

So here are my 2 cents. I like the dots for your drapes and I like the floral for the valences.

My reason is that the other fabric (let's call it #3) is kind of a small "dottish" design as well and if the drapes have dots I think you should do something that will be different. I also think that that #3 would be really busy. I feel like the floral and dot compliment each other well where as the two dottish ones would be "competing" visually, if that makes sense. I understand your strawberry dillema but think that in the big picture the strawberies really won't stand out that much.

Good luck and I can't wait to see the finished product. Oh, and I still think you need to post the pics of Cooper's room because that window treatment is so stinking cute!

Love you. Em

I clicked your comment bar to find that Emily wrote exactly what I was going to say. Many, we have good taste! Whatever you do will be fantastic, I'm sure. Please post pics. I've never made curtains or valances, but am gearing up to do so in my family room (honestly I've been gearing up for over a year now). I'll check back for inspiration... perhaps you can spur me forward!

I am going to have to go with emily as well. Two fabrics in the last photo would be best. Make sure to shows us when you're done.

I am in agreeance here. The paisley dot looks overwhelming and I think would distract from the small dot that you really like. I am glad I saw the paisley dot in such a large sample, and next to the small dot. Its 'busyness' influences my opinion a bit. You could still use the paisley dot as a trim or piping.

I think the floral looks great. The strawberries (quite crying, I know you don't like berries) but they are inviting. Strawberries are a happy, fun fruit. They will invoke happy, fun feelings.

I am secretly pulling for pantera cheetah.

I like the dots best, but with the floral being so big and bold, it would make a great accent. I agree with Emily about the dots for drapes and floral for valences. Very cute.

I agree with the paisley being pretty busy. Why do you suppose the designers even put strawberries in with the flowers? Emily is probably correct that they won't stand out so much in the big picture.

I think I am the only one saying this, but I like the dots on dots. I see that they might compete, but they are not as similar as it seems. I would not do the floral/strawberry number. My rule is do not put fabric on the wall that you wouldn't want to wear.

where are you at in Phoenix?

I can't wait to see the results. I wish I had any sense in designing, but none here. My SIL has a store in Mesa and she will be my future designer. She has an eye for that stuff and is amazing.

I'm agreeing with Emily, too. And, I just have to say I love that this is bright and unique. Totally tasteful and totally you. Really cute, and I love the green walls. I can't wait to see the finished product!

Instead of doing a black-background fabric for the valance too, why not pick out that blue, or gold color, and put that over the cute dot? Methinks the black on black is too much.I wouldn't wear the combination, nor would I probably put them on a scrapbook page together without a solid to go with!!
