this was amusing to me on several levels... first that somehow in an attempt to make the office his own, obama is "snubbing" the brits, you know, punishing them for the fact that his race was mistreated poorly by their countrymen. it's reaching a bit if you ask me. second, that by having a strong body (read: arms) and a mind to accompany it, michelle is out of line in washington, because apparently you've got to have an old-lady hair cut and wear frumpy suits to be considered smart enough to roll with the big fellas intellectually. I personally love the fact that rather than feeling second best in the first-lady position (hillary) or falling between the cracks (laura), michelle obama has embraced her role and is running with it. more power to her! and her sense of style, because having one doesn't make one a ditz...
for you, patria... thanks dad.

I agree with you; Michelle Obama is one smart cookie - irrespective of race, gender or appendageal muscle tone. I am fascinated by continued media attempts to divert collective attention away from the systematic and multi-faceted dismantling of our society (all in the interest of "transformational change", of course). Front page articles about his graying hair, her well-toned arms, her wardrobe, the kids playground at the WH, etc. do not contribute to transparent reporting of our elected officials' performance. This is a disservice to every one of us in this time of real crisis.

While I truly believe the White House could use a professional gift giver. I do not believe that or Michelle's bicepts are newsworthy. Nor, do I think our society is being dismantled--but I still love you Nick :-)
I agree with the author. She seems to me sharp as a tack. Needing not to stand in her husbands shadow to accomplish her goals as first lady, or to prove her intelligence. Her education precedes her and her desire to be a great mom is perhaps what I admire most. Her biceps and impeccable style are simply icing on the cake and frankly the refreshment the White House needed.
And Nick...really, where is your American optimism?
fun post and thanks for the shout out! (: the article made me laugh with all those quotes that are evidence of how so many people don't know what to do with/report on/think of a smart, confident, beautiful, capable, compassionate, powerful woman! people are totally still thrown off by that. i love you michelle obama and all the women around the world who are inhabiting their lives in a similar fearless way!
that's us Amberly! :) hey, i'm trying, and it's nice to see some inspiration around.
luv, patria
